Burst Pipes
A burst pipe can cause serious damage to your home, the electrical wiring and the contents within. It is important to act as quickly as possible to avoid the least about of damage to your home. Call us straight away and we’ll send a plumber out as a matter of urgency. It’s always a good idea to be aware of where your main stopcock is in the house, especially for an emergency such as this. They are commonly under the sink but it could possibility be anywhere within your property.
Once this is off, turn on your cold taps to drain the remaining water for the pipes (possibly the tank as well) into basins and the bath etc so it will run away causing no damage. If the burst pipe is leaking close to the electrics or an electrical appliance then switch off the mains immediately. Please be careful as if the mains switch is also wet don’t touch it or you could be at risk of being electrocuted!!
One of our emergency engineers can do all this on his arrival but if you feel capable enough to do it before he arrives then obviously the less time the water is leaking the less damage it may cause.
