Gas Leak - Trace and Repair

Unfortunately gas leaks can occur at anytime and as you know they can potentially dangerous. If you have a strong smell of gas in your home then the first thing to do is open all windows and even doors if possible. Isolate the gas supply at the gas meter.

DO NOT TURN ANYTHING ELECTRICAL ON!

Evacuate the premises and call your gas service provider (the number is on your gas meter). The gas network provider will be out within 1 hour to make safe. They can only work on the pipe-work upto the meter and the meter itself (incoming supply).

If the leak is on the supply from the meter to your appliances (outgoing) then you will need to call out a gas engineer.
At Avery & Wright we will send an engineer out to you at the earliest opportunity and at a time that’s convenient to you. Most gas escapes require taking out a small piece of pipe-work and renewing it to make sound. On occasions the escape may be from pipe-work that can’t be reached and renewed in a small section. In these situations, lengthier pipe-work will be installed but this will be explained to you when the engineer has discovered the exact location of the leak.

On very rare occasions a complete new gas run will be recommended as the original pipe-work may be in such bad condition. Again, this will be discussed after the engineers assessment and before the repair stage has started.
